On November 24, 2022, at approximately 11:05 PM, Conroe Patrol Officers were dispatched to the Springhill Suites hotel located at 16520 S. IH 45 South in regard to a disturbance involving a male that was in possession of a knife being disruptive at the front desk. Officers learned from hotel staff that the male was asked to leave the location and he refused- returning to his room.
As officers approached the hotel room a female was exiting and a male appeared in the doorway and brandished a firearm, pointing it at officers, before retreating into the room and barricading himself inside.
Conroe Police SWAT responded to relieve the officers on the scene. Upon approach, the male subject opened the door and again pointed his firearm at the tactical officer. This officer retreated behind a wall and discharged his weapon at the subject. His rounds struck the wall that separated the two and did not penetrate. The subject again retreated and barricaded himself in the room.
After hours of futile negotiations, at about 6:55 AM, officers penetrated an exterior window and dispersed gas into the room causing his immediate surrender. 61-year-old Mitchell Hann was arrested without further incident for Aggravated Assault Deadly Weapon on Public Servant.
Conroe Police Criminal Investigators and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident.
