A fatal crash was discovered just after 7am Tuesday morning. Sometime late last night or early this morning a Toyota passenger car was northbound on Daw Collins at a high rate of speed. The vehicle went over the railroad tracks, went airborne and landed in the intersection. The vehicle then continued into the trees and into the creek-bed about 12-feet below grade. The vehicle was pretty much hidden from the roadway until a passerby spotted it. DPS is investigating. The driver of the vehicle was Carlos Rivas, 19, of Cleveland. Montgomery County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace James Metts arrived on the scene and ordered McNutt Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. Ironically, Rivas lost his mother on November 9, 2012 in a fatal accident due to a medical emergency on Daw Collins and FM 2090. Rivas, a recent graduate of Splendora was well respected by his peers. Tuesday night many of his friends from Splendora High gathered at the crash site and placed a cross on the location.
