Teen shoots woman in neck

PRESS RELEASE

On March 8, 2009 at approximately 7:30 AM, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in the 10000 block of Meador Road in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, MCSO deputies found the victim in a neighbor’s residence with a single gunshot wound to the lower neck.

Sherry Newsome, 36, was transported to Hermann Memorial Hospital in The Woodlands, where she was treated and released. Deputies learned that the shooter, 19-year-old Dennis Dewayne Robertson, was waiting in Newsome’s residence when she arrived home and after the shooting fled into the nearby woods and has not yet been located.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating this shooting.

UPDATE-March 9, 2009
On Monday at approximately 4:00 PM Dennis Dewayne Robertson turned himself in to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to be interviewed by detectives on this case. Robertson was arrested on one count of Aggravated Assault (Deadly Weapon) and booked into jail without incident. No bond has been set at this time.

UPDATE – March 10, 2009
Dennis Dewayne Robertson’s bond on the charge of aggravated assault causes serious bodily injury is set at $70,000.
Robertson is also held on an out of county warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

UPDATE- May 14, 2009
A Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted Dennis Dewayne Robertson on Tuesday on two counts of deadly conduct / discharge firearm in connection with a March 8 shooting.
Robertson has been in the Montgomery County Jail since March 9.
