Texas Litter Control has received a $75,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to help prepare more homeless pets in the greater Houston area for adoption. Some five million pets make their way into shelters each year in the U.S. With the help of this grant, the organization will offer veterinary services to prepare animals for adoption into permanent homes and transportation of animals from overburdened municipal shelters to adoption events. |
PetSmart Charities Adoption Prep Grants allow former stray cats like Walter to start new lives in loving homes happy and healthy. Walter’s new family says, “When we brought our new puppy to Texas Litter Control to be fixed, we had the pleasure of meeting Walter, a handsome grey tabby cat, in the lobby. I got to pet him and talk to him and fell in love. We didn’t make moves to adopt him yet because we wanted to give the new puppy a chance to adapt to his new home. When we brought our cat in a few months later, we found out Walter was still there! We were shocked, sad that he hadn’t been adopted yet, but excited to be able to bring him home because we were still in love with him. We made moves as quickly as possible. Autumn from Texas Litter Control was very helpful, and forthcoming about Walter’s history. Walter is FIV positive, and we were told exactly how to best care for Walter and give him his best, long life. Walter has become a big part of our lives. He loves to cuddle with our kids and even likes playing with the dogs. He’s a big snuggler, and bed jumps every night. We adore him so much. Thank you, Autumn and Texas Litter Control!” |

All of our programs are based on data provided by the shelters. TLC has three 5,000-square-foot plus low-cost veterinary clinics which provide spay/neuter and wellness services to the public. Our clinics perform approximately 25,000 spay/neuter surgeries per year and provide other vetting services to over 10,000 pet owners per year. In addition, TLC performs in excess of 1,000 pet adoptions per year. We maintain a pet food pantry and shelter intervention program to give pet owners options over surrendering their pets to a shelter. Our surgeon training program brings more veterinarians into high quality, high volume spay/neuter market. The TLC operations staff provides mentorship for other clinics that struggle with efficiency and technology to provide suggestions on improving workflow.
