A video about the dangers of texting while driving began as a public service announcement in the United Kingdom. Thanks to the Internet and social networking websites, the graphic depiction of a multi-vehicle pileup caused by a teen texting behind the wheel has been seen all over the United States, and has people talking.
The video’s graphic nature has been met with extreme reactions on both sides of the debate regarding whether it should be shown to kids.
The video is actually a clip of a 30-minute film produced by the Gwent Police Department in South Wales. The issue crosses not only an ocean, but all socioeconomic lines as well. Many states have enacted legislation banning the practice, but Texas is not among them. Recent surveys by Seventeen Magazine and AAA show around 50 percent of teens admit to texting while driving.
Some say changing the law is the answer, while others say educating the public, and especially young drivers would be more effective.
Below is a CBS News report about the video and beneath that is the entire controversial clip.
