this mornings updates from montgomery county fire marshal

Operational planning and briefings are in progress at the Incident Operations Center in Magnolia at this time. As soon as more information is available it will be posted here. The crews worked again through the night shoring up lines in Montgomery County. The fire lines will still need to be widened in some areas to prevent more flare-ups. If you are driving in the area this morning, be aware of heavy smoke in places.

FM 1486 remains closed at this hour, heavy residual smoke is present. There is quite a lot of activity there, but things are progressing well. School is open, but obviously there will be traffic delays, and limited bus service is likely in some areas.

Our understanding of MISD policy is that they will excuse absence if your child is in one of the evacuated areas. Obviously, no buses will run on FM 1486, and service may be limited in others. Please check the MISD website for more details.

For displaced animals, contact Montgomery County Animal Shelter at 936-442-7738. American Red Cross aids in immediate needs such as short term shelter and clothing vouchers, they can be contacted at 281-465-9384. For other recovery needs, contact MCUW at 281-292-4155, ext. 235 or call 211.
