TONIGHT ON CHANNEL 11

Tonight on Channel 11 at 10 p.m., Tiffany Craig talks with both Deputy Shackleford and the teen whose vehicle was struck during a traffic stop on FM 3083.

SADDLE CREEK

On the afternoon of June 20, Montgomery County Precinct 2 Deputy Constable Tim Shackalford was performing a routine patrol on FM 3083 when he spotted a Mustang speeding the opposite direction. Shackleford turned around to stop the driver, who had immediately pulled to the shoulder upon seeing the patrol car’s emergency lights, when a pickup which had been tailing the Mustang swerved and narrowly avoided impact.

When the deputy approached the Mustang, the driver claimed that the truck following him had passed on the right earlier and thrown a beer bottle at his passenger door. The deputy took the driver’s license and told him to remain parked as he tried to locate the truck.

Unable to locate the truck, Shackleford pulled behind the Mustang and started to run his drivers license. As he did this, the teen is was still visible on the dash cam, dusting his car down, wiping the exhaust, and then taking a seat on the rear bumper.

Shackleford, who was sitting in the patrol car with the door open and one foot on the ground, absentmindedly pulled his foot in and closed the door.

Seconds later, a man driving northbound on FM 3083, distracted by a drink he had spilt in his lap, veered off the edge of the roadway, missing the patrol car by inches and slamming into the Mustang. The young driver made a split second decision to jump to the right, out from between the two vehicles.

The driver of the pickup was cited for not having a insurance and failure to drive in a single marked lane.

There were no injuries.
