A routine traffic stop led members of the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office to the discovery of 627 grams of methamphetamine, with a street value of between $60,000 and $80,000.
Around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Precinct 4 patrol deputies initiated a traffic stop on a white PT Cruiser that was traveling northbound on US 59 near North Park Drive after witnessing the driver exceeding the speed limit and driving aggressively, endangering other motorists. As the PT Cruiser began pulling over, the deputies could see the driver making furtive movements, which continued after he stopped.
The deputies approached the driver and obtained his Mexican ID, in lieu of a driver’s license. The driver, Ignacio Plancarte-Penaloza, acted extremely nervous. After receiving consent to search the vehicle, the deputies discovered a shoe box in the passenger floor board area, containing a plastic bag filled with methamphetamine. The suspect was then placed under arrest.
Ignacio Plancarte-Penaloza, 28, of Houston is charged with first-degree felony Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance.
Precinct 4 Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden said he was proud of the arrest and seizure.
“Whether that meth was headed for East County or somewhere else, it was going to be on the streets of someone’s neighborhood, raising the crime rate and destroying lives and families,” Constable Hayden said. “This case is a prime example of why interdiction is so important.”
The suspect is currently in the Montgomery County Jail with bond set at $500,000.
