Walker County, TX– On December 13, 2024, at approximately 2:18 AM, Walker County Sheriff’s Office Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a Nissan sedan traveling northbound on IH 45 at the 113-mile marker. The vehicle had an expired registration, prompting the deputy to pull the vehicle over for further investigation.
Deputy contacted the driver, identified as Isaiah Lewis, 23, of Riverside, Texas. The deputy returned to his patrol vehicle to verify the information, which revealed that Lewis had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
As the deputy returned to the vehicle, he observed Lewis holding a black handgun next to his leg. Lewis appeared startled by the deputy’s quick return and dropped the weapon to the floorboard. The deputy ordered Lewis to refrain from touching the gun; however, Lewis made a motion toward the firearm. The deputy entered the vehicle and began struggling with Lewis to remove the weapon which Lewis was now holding in his hand. Ultimately the deputy was successful in taking control of the firearm, and placing Lewis into custody.
Lewis was transported to the Walker County Jail where he was booked in for Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant (1st Degree Felony), Obstruction or Retaliation (3rd Degree Felony), Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon (Misdemeanor A), Failure to Appear Warrant out of Montgomery County.
While being processed at the jail, Lewis made threatening statements towards the deputy and staff.
“This is a clear example of the risks our deputies encounter while working to protect our community” said Sheriff McRae. “He (deputy) demonstrated incredible restraint and professionalism under extremely dangerous circumstances” stated McRae.
