HARRIS COUNTY, TX- On Monday, Deputies with Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman’s office conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of N. Sam Houston Pkwy E. The driver, 35-year-old Darrell Cotton, had nine open warrants for his arrest, through Precinct 4. Turns out Cotton is also a convicted felon, which makes the loaded gun Deputies then allegedly found in his vehicle a serious crime. What’s more, a check revealed the gun had been reported stolen. Deputies’ vehicle search also revealed 17 bottles of (prescription required) Promethazine, 29 ounces of marijuana, and $4,460 in cash.
Public records show Cotton has a lengthy criminal history. He was charged with first-degree felony Aggravated Robbery with a Deadly Weapon in 2014 and the third-degree felony charge Felon in Possession of a Firearm. It appears those charges were dismissed in exchange for a guilty plea to Evading Arrest / Detention with Previous Conviction. “Darrell Cotton was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Theft of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Marijuana, and the nine Class C warrants. He is awaiting bond out of the 174th District Court,” Constable Mark Herman said.
