HOUSTON An East Montgomery County man died just after midnight on Monday as a result of severe burns received during a three-alarm fire on Jan. 15 that destroyed his home in the 24000 block of Misty Lake Circle in the Northcrest Ranch subdivision off of SH 242, according to investigator Jeff Williams with the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office.
Kevin Wesley Salyers, 33, was home alone when a fire ripped through his wood frame house where he sustained second and third degree burns before he was able to flee the structure. Neighbors saw Salyers on fire in the street around 10: 30 p.m. and saw smoke coming from his house. They called 911, and when MCHD medics arrived, they quickly called for a helicopter.
Life Flight air ambulance transported Salyers to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston’s Texas Medical Center in critical condition.
Williams said the fire remains under investigation. Unfortunately, the only witness is now deceased.
The New Caney Fire Department was in command of the scene and received assistance from Needham Fire and Rescue, Bennett Volunteer Fire Department and River Plantation Fire Department in Montgomery County, as well as Huffman Fire Department from Harris County.
