TRAIN DERAILS IN DAYTON

Just before 10pm Friday the same Dayton Police Officer involved in an earlier pursuit was waiting for the train to clear the crossing at Highway 90 and SH 146. She noticed some of the wheels sparking and was in the process of contacting her dispatcher when the train derailed. Nine cars total came off the track. Those cars included 6 filled with plastic pellets and 3 filled with carbon. Three of the 9 rolled over on their side. TXDOT along with Dayton Fire Department, DPS and Dayton Fire Department closed Highway 90 as crews moved heavy equipment in to clear the derailment. Two additional locomotives were brought in to clear the rail cars which were blocking the Highway 90 and the Waco Street crossings. Highway 90 is expected to open by dawn. With possibly one westbound lane closed with heavy equipment. Dayton Fire Chief Boyett said there were no hazardous materials involved and no injuries.
