Earlier this month, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department took advantage of a free “Building Breaching” class offered by the US Marshal’s Office, Texas DPS and members of the Jefferson County Task Force. Twelve Deputies and Supervisors took part in this training which included skilled instruction and illustration of the different types of breaching techniques, safety considerations, building and room clearing in order to achieve a successful outcome of critical field operations.
Included in this training class were several hours of class room instructions and then actual “hands on” field training that concluded an eight hour block of instruction. Such updated techniques are necessary to assure the safety of our deputies as well as the hostage(s) in a school shooting or other criminal stand-off situation.
Cpl. Christine Taylor, Training Coordinator for the department, arranged for this unique and beneficial class and commented that the Sheriff’s Department personnel are grateful for the opportunity to work side by side with such professionally trained and experienced Officers such as these instructors.
Such classes as this one, as well as many other and varied classes, have been held and are scheduled in the future to further enhance the quality of service to the public and with “Officer Safety” in mind as well.
