LIBERTY COUNTY, TX- On September 30, Cleveland Police Officer Brown was patrolling the 300 block of S. San Jacinto Ave, when he saw a 2012 Ford F-150 pickup without a front license plate. Officer Brown then initiated a traffic stop on the truck at South Washington Ave. and Crocket. Street.
The driver, Robert James Miller, readily handed the Officer his ID. When Officer Brown called in the ID, he learned Miller had multiple active warrants through the Cleveland Police Department. Officer Brown arrested Miller and the pickup was towed and impounded at the Smith Towing lot.
On October 2, CPD’s Officer Kelly responded to Smith Towing on S. Washington Avenue, regarding a reported criminal mischief incident. The rear fence was damaged, the truck Miller was driving when he was arrested on September 30 was missing from the lot. Smith Towing employees told the officer they believed someone had jumped the cyclone fence. They further confirmed no one had permission to remove that missing truck.
Additional investigation revealed the truck was reported stolen in Harris County’s Precinct 4. Officer Kelly then contacted the Officer Brown with the new information, and they began a joint investigation.
While the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office continues to investigate the first theft of what may be the most frequently stolen 11-year-old truck in Southeast Texas, the Cleveland Officers also continue their investigation.
Meanwhile, Officer Brown went before Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Ralph Fuller on October 2, and obtained an arrest warrant for Miller, for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, and Miller was arrested again on October 8.
Robert James Miller, 30, is charged with state jail felony Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. His bond was set at $10,000.
