The horrific crash on I-69 Tuesday morning, August 8, has claimed the life of Juan Pablo Arizo. Just after 7 amn Tuesday morning multiple calls came into Montgomery County 911 reporting a crash on I-69 northbound under SH 242. Callers reported passerby’s were performing cpr on a child. A Splendora Officer was first on the scene and was able to remove Juan Pablo Arizo from a Honda Pilot who was extremely critical. With traffic backed up and ambulances fighting to get through a EMC firefighter grabbed the child and ran back to the ambulance in the essence of time. Juan Pablo Arizo brother who was in stable condition was also removed from the back seat. Andrea Rozo, who is a longtime educator with CLeveland ISD at Southside Elementary was in stable condition. A construction truck pulling a trailer tried to avoid the crash and hit the k-wall on the inside shoulder causing it to jack knife. That driver was uninjured , however his passenger was transported to the hospital in stable condition. DPS is investigating the crash. Preliminary details were that a Chevrolet 2500 pickup with a roof ladder rack and rear tool boxes was northbound on I-69. The driver ran off to the right side of the road striking the k-wall. The impact caused that truck to rotate and go airborne, landing on the Honda Pilot. The impact of the crash with the wall was so great that it caused the bed rack and tool boxes to go airborne. The construction truck, seeing what was happening braked and hit the inside k-wall ripping the axles from the truck and trailer but not hitting any other vehicles. East Montgomery County Fire assisted on the scene. The Montgomery County District Attorneys Office Vehicular Crimes Unit responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. It is possible the driver who started the chain of events had 0ossibly fallen asleep as he had just completed a long shift. Investigators do not believe it was a texting related crash. Masters Environmental responded to the scene to clear the debris. THe vehicles were towed by Saddle Creek Towing.
