New Caney firefighters arrived in the 18000 block of Pickering near Cooper just after 12:30 a.m. this morning to battle a mobile home fire. On arrival of the totally involved mobile home a second alarm was called for to bring more tankers to this hydrant-free subdivision. They were met with many immediate challenges which included a power line that had dropped and was dancing against the neighboring mobile home. Inside ammunition hundreds of rounds of ammunition went off. Along with this, the fire was so intense it started lapping at the mobile home next door to it.
Firefighters immediately attacked the rolling flames and made an attempt to keep the neighboring structure cooled down to prevent spread.
Nobody was home at the time of the fire but as the owner returned he said he had a lot of tools and generators that were destroyed in the fire.
New Caney was assisted by River Plantation, Caney Creek, and Needham Road. Units from Porter and Splendora backed into New Caney fire stations to back them up in case of another fire.
There were no injuries.
The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office will be investigating.
