A resident called 911 at 7:51 AM this morning, reporting that they had found two people unconscious in their home located in the 100 block of Gourd Creek Drive, near the city of New Waverly. Crews from the New Waverly Fire Department and Walker County EMS responed to the scene along with Walker County Sheriff’s Deputies.
While enroute, Firefighters donned their gear and breathing apparatus and upon their arrival immediately entered the home encountering high levels of Carbon Monoxide on their gas detectors. A team of Firefighters searched the home and found a deceased male and an unconscious female. They pulled the female victim from the home and she was treated at the scene by Walker County EMS and NWFD Firefighter/EMTs. The victim was transported to Huntsville Memorial Hospital where she was eventually pronounced deceased as well.
Walker County Sheriff’s Deputies and Detective responded to the scene and after the home was cleared by the Fire Department, began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragedy.
In a statement released this afternoon, WCSO Detectives revealed that the original 911 caller told them that they found a motorized generator running inside the home and turned it off. At this point, no foul play is suspected, but the investigation is still underway. Both bodies have been submitted to the Montgomery County Forensic Services pending autopsy results. At this time the identity of the victims in this case cannot be released, pending the notification of family members.
