TWO KINGWOOD HFD FIREFIGHTERS CRITICAL AFTER 18 WHEELER T-BONES ENGINE ON FREEWAY

A little after 3 am Sunday morning, Houston Fire responded to a major accident with an 18-wheeler on Kingwood Drive southbound. Kingwood’s Engine 104 was on the overpass with all emergency equipment activated, blocking the lanes in heavy rain. An 18-wheeler at highway speed slammed into the fire truck with firefighters inside. All four were transported to the hospital. Two are in critical condition.  At 10 am this morning, one firefighter is out of surgery, while the other firefighter is still in surgery.  One firefighter has been released and she returned to the scene to see the damage. Apple Towing is tasked with moving the firetruck.  As of 10 am, due to the condition of the truck, they are moving it slowly southbound on the freeway to the Beltway. Southbound I-69 at Humble has only two left lanes open as one wrecker is in front, and the other is backing down the freeway, cradling the fire truck.

  1. Given what we’ve been learning about states like California, NY and Illinois issuing CDLs to immigrants who do not speak English including those illegally in our country makes me want to see a follow up on this story that identifies the driver of the 18 wheeler.
