    ROB FREYER                                  LANE HYGOOD

Rob Freyer and Lane Haygood with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office were notified last week that they had obtained board certification from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in their respective fields. The Texas Board of Legal Specialization recognizes attorneys that have demonstrated a commitment to a particular specialty area in their practice. Attorneys must also pass a comprehensive examination that covers all facets of their specialty.

Rob Freyer, the Major Crimes Felony Chief, obtained his certification in general Criminal Law. A graduate of Texas Christian University and the South Texas College of Law, Mr. Freyer is tasked with assisting local law enforcement in the identification, investigation and prosecution of Montgomery County’s repeat and violent offenders. He also assists law enforcement in large scale narcotics investigations as needed.

Lane Haygood, an attorney in the office’s appellate division, obtained his certification in Criminal Appellate Law, which deals with the appeals process cases go through after conviction in the trial courts. He attended the University of Texas and the Baylor University School of Law. Last year, the appellate division had a 100 percent affirmance rate, and Mr. Haygood was a significant contributor to that remarkable achievement.

“Our office has eight attorneys certified in general Criminal Law and now with Mr. Haygood’s certification, one of only two Board Certified attorneys in Criminal Appellate law in the county,” stated District Attorney Brett Ligon. “I believe that it is my job to hire and train up the best and the brightest attorneys to represent the citizens of Montgomery County. Mr. Freyer and Mr. Haygood have proven through their hard work at the office and their hard work to obtain their certification that the citizens of this county are well represented.”
