TWO MORE GRANGERLAND AREA CRASHES

Just moments after posting the rash of crashes in the Grangerland area two more occurred at almost the same spots. On the first one, a female driver drove out of the Shell parking lot on FM 3083 at Old Houston. She crossed FM 1485 going into the Valero parking lot when a young man leaving Caney Creek High School slammed into her. Neither was injured. This was the same situation as the Sunday morning crash.

At the same time, Caney Creek Fire was dispatched to another crash on Old Houston just south of SH 242. In this crash, an elderly driver in a Dodge pickup was traveling north on Old Houston. A Ford pickup was driving south when the mirrors hit together. The mirror on the Dodge truck slammed into the driver’s window shattering it and cutting the driver’s neck with glass. He was treated on the scene by Caney Creek firefighters and MCHD. Old Houston Road traffic has increased dramatically over the past years with the growth. It had not been striped in over 10 years. There have been numerous crashes and near-crashes on the narrow roadway. Many drivers are forced to the shoulder as large 18-wheelers travel to Walmart down the road and also attempt to negotiate the curves between Village Way and FM 1314.  The bridge rails are mostly made of angle iron, not enough to stop a car from going over. The issue with the 18-wheelers has to do with the truckers GPS which route down that road. Several years ago a driver came close to drowning on that road after running off the bridge. As crews worked to free her the former Grangerland Fire Department Chief held her above water while being in the water himself.
