Just before 6 p.m. two young girls, one from the Middle School and one from the High School in Cleveland were struck in front of the school. The two crossed FM 321 from the High School to the north when they were struck by a pickup. Both girls were in critical condition. Paramedics from Cleveland and Liberty County EMS transported the two girls to the Cleveland Airport where Life Flight was awaiting them. They were both flown to Memorial Hermann in Houston in critical condition. According to Cleveland ISD Police Chief Rex Evans, the driver of the truck was not impaired and was cooperating. Many students cross in the unprotected, dimly lit section of road to get to the apartments and shopping center across the street from the High School. Names are not being released at this time.
