TxDOT: Two Major Roadways Closed at Trinity River Bridges

LIBERTY COUNTY, TX- On Monday, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced the closure of two heavily traveled roadways and bridges because of the flooding occurring over the weekend. Highway 90 connects Dayton and Liberty in Liberty County, and the bridge between them is closed until further notice. There is no other nearby roadway connecting the two cities, and Liberty County is the county seat and the location of the courthouse and the headquarters of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. FM 787’s bridge over the Trinity River is also closed.

Highway 90 and FM 787 are old roadways that are relied upon heavily, without convenient nearby alternatives for access between Liberty and Dayton. The Highway 105 bridge across the Trinity remains intact, but that’s a long way to detour for those accustomed to using Highway 90 to travel the six miles between Dayton and Liberty.

Additional information will be posted regarding these roads and bridges as it becomes available.
