A small fire of leaves and pine needles quickly spread across a homeowners property just after 4 p.m. today. Caney Creek Fire Department responded with River Plantation Fire Department to a reported grass fire on Brown Road just off FM 1485 in Grangerland,
When firefighters arrived they found almost one-quarter acre covered in pine needles burning. However, along with that was a portable building with the fire spreading to a garage and truck.
The fire was contained with minor damage to the portable building. The resident said she had started the fire but had wet it down around where the fire was burning. With the dry conditions a wet pine needle can be dry enough to burn within one hour.
If you are burning please have a rake or shovel close-by and a hose that has been turned on. If you need to leave the fire, extinguish it first.
