The American people have delivered a clear and undeniable mandate: secure our borders. Under the Biden administration, the Department of Justice and the FBI engaged in an egregious abuse of power. Now, with a unified Republican government in Washington, we will dismantle their failed policies and put an end to criminals, rapists, and child predators roaming freely in our communities. The reckless weaponization of government that endangers American lives stops now.
“For four years, we saw the Biden Justice Department happily weaponize that agency to go after their political opponents. … And not a single Democrat on this committee, to the best of my knowledge, has ever asked one damn question about it. … If Joe Biden and the Democrats had been willing to follow the law, Laken Riley would still be alive instead of being murdered by a criminal, illegal alien released by Joe Biden and the Democrats if [they] followed the law. Jocelyn Nungaray in my hometown of Houston, a beautiful 12-year-old girl raped and murdered by two illegal Venezuelan gang members Joe Biden had in custody and released [would still be alive today]. No president has ever done what Joe Biden [did], and by the way, not a one of my Democrat colleagues, to the best of my recollection, ever asked one question about why the Department of Justice was refusing to follow the law.”
The Trump administration is restoring common sense to the federal government. President Trump and Elon Musk are leading the charge to rein in reckless, out-of-control spending. Throughout history, presidents have exercised impoundment—a constitutional tool to curb wasteful government expenditures. This is a win for taxpayers. Now, more than ever, we must take aggressive steps to slash excessive spending and reduce our mounting debt.
“Thomas Jefferson first exercised impoundment in 1801, and I think the Trump administration is teeing up a legal challenge to bring back impoundment to turn around spending and debt. That’s a very good thing for American taxpayers.”
As the Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee this week, I led a critical hearing on the Arctic’s vast economic and security potential, as well as Greenland’s geostrategic importance to U.S. interests. The United States and Denmark share a strong, enduring partnership, and any discussions about Greenland’s future should be rooted in cooperation and is a conversation worth having.
“President Trump has highlighted the urgent need for a new fleet, and as Chairman, I’m committed to ending Russian and Chinese icebreaker dominance. Executing on this quickly, not waiting for years and years on piecemeal annual appropriations, is vital for our national security.”
As Chairman, I strongly support Howard Lutnick, President Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Commerce, and I am committed to ensuring his confirmation. Lutnick is a proven leader who will drive policies essential to America’s economic strength, which is why I took to the Senate floor to urge my colleagues to support his confirmation. Under his leadership, the Department of Commerce will expand commercial access to mid-band spectrum, keep the Gulf open for vital oil and gas exploration, and ignite a resurgence in American manufacturing.
“Two weeks ago, Mr. Lutnick appeared before the Commerce Committee, where he received a warm reception from senators. The following week, he was reported out with bipartisan support, underscoring that many commerce committee members see Mr. Lutnick as highly qualified to serve as Secretary of Commerce. … Mr. Lutnick, leadership will bring a fresh, innovative approach to the Department of Commerce, he will advance policies that promote innovation, foster economic growth, and strengthen America’s position as a global leader.”
