Just before 4:00p.m. Jonathan Kuta, age 17 of Magnolia was killed in a head-on crash on FM 1488 near Mapleleaf.
According to DPS Kuta, a senior at Magnolia High School was eastbound on FM1488 at a high rate of speed. Witnesses said he had passed several vehicles. As he approached Mapleleaf in the Lake Windcrest area his blue Mazda pickup struck a Ford pickup in the westbound lane.
Montgomery County Hospital District responded to the scene along with Magnolia Fire Department. Kuta was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Ford pickup Larry Love, age 62 was uninjured but transported to St. Lukes in the Woodlands for chest pains.
Kuta’s family was on the scene and stated that they lived just across the tree line from the crash site. His father heard the crash and then received the phone call from a neighbor that his son was involved.
His sister who works at Dominos Pizza just down the road from the scene with her brother ran to the scene to find her brother had passed away.
Traffic on FM 1488 was at a total stand still for over one hour. Reports said it was backed up to College Park Drive almost six miles away.
Traffic is still slow in the area as troopers continue the investigation. The area it happened had just been completed and the roadway which was next to it had been recently paved allowing at least one lane of traffic to flow around the two lane road where the accident occurred .
