Today, January 14, 2012, just before 8:00 PM, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 27000 block of Medina Circle in far West Montgomery County involving the death of a one year-old child.
When deputies arrived and entered the home they found that a one year old male child had been brutally mauled to death by the family’s pit bull. As the deputy tried to control the dog the dog turned on the deputy and lunged at him. The deputy shot the dog inside the home.
The home where this tragedy occurred is that of the child’s grandparents. The child was inside the home with his grandmother when he was attacked. The 45 year old grandmother was not injured by the dog but she had to be taken by ambulance to a local hospital due to the emotional trauma.
The call for help was made by the victim’s grandfather when he arrived home. The victim and his mother had just recently moved in with the grandparents. The child’s mother had left the home earlier in the day and has not been located by detectives.
Investigators are conducting interviews with the family and neighbors. No criminal charges have been filed but when the investigation has been completed the case facts and evidence will be reviewed with the District Attorney’s Office.
