At 2:30 am Needham Fire received a call for a major accident at the intersection of SH 242 and I-45. Reports were victims were trapped including a baby. When units arrived they found a KIA Sorento with heavy front end damage and a KIA Forte with heavy rear damage. The female driver of the Sorento was not injured. The female driver of the Forte suffered minor injuries. In the Forte was a baby in a child safety seat directly behind the driver. The baby was not injured, however, the empty child safety seat behind the passenger seat was empty. It was almost crushed as the right rear of the Forte suffered major damage. DPS Investigated the crash and according to the witness, both were westbound when the driver of the Sorento, who is believed to have been impaired slammed into the rear or the Forte. Two other males who claimed to be witnesses were arrested on the scene. The driver for probable DWI and the passenger for Public Intoxication. They had arrived after the crash had already happened. The female driver of the Sorento and the two males claiming to be witnesses were transported to the Montgomery County Jail. The intersection reopened just after 4 am.
The driver of the Sorento, Bridgette Lynn Hughes was arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on a charge of driving while intoxicated with an open container. Her bond was set at $1500.
