Four young adults’ late-night fun ended tragically, with drowning in the early hours of Tuesday. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office 911 center received a frantic call around 1:20 a.m. Units responded to the scene and found a young man alone on a floating platform. He said his 20-year-old brother was swimming a distance of about 100 feet out to him, went under on this way to the raft, and never surfaced.
The brothers had been swimming with two female friends at the time of the incident. One of the young women went to her car and dialed 911, while one of the brothers remained on the platform until rescued by North Montgomery County firefighters. Divers with North Montgomery County Fire Department spent a very short time in the water before discovering the young man’s body in about 10 feet of water, less than two hours later.
Montgomery County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack conducted an inquest and ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. Detectives on the scene said there appeared to be no foul play involved and called it a freak accident.
The victim’s identity will be released later today.
