Just before 8:30 this evening an explosion was reported at the Forum on West Panther Creek in The Woodlands. As Woodlands Engine 102 pulled out of the station a smoke column was already sighted. As the first trucks arrived they attacked the fire on a large transformer mounted on the ground. Inside that transformer was close to one hundred gallons of mineral oil used for cooling also burning. A breezeway was also on fire as was a building housing air conditioning equipment. Heat from the flames melted the siding on building five of the complex.
At this time the fire is out but firefighters are still cooling the transformer.
Approximately sixty patients have been displaced and are currently being housed at a nursing home, church, and in the dining room of the complex.
According to Assistant Montgomery County Fire Marshal Scott Burlin, there are no injuries. He did say if families want to pick loved ones up from the FIVE BUILDING ONLY, they may do so. Do not however drive down next to the fire trucks as there is a hose on the ground and no option to turn around.
