Just before 3 am Friday morning a DPS Trooper stopped a vehicle on a traffic offense near the intersection of Washington and SH 249. As he spoke with the driver the Trooper started back to his patrol car. As he did another driver who was believed to have been intoxicated struck the front driver’s side of the Trooper’s SUV, then struck the sedan the Trooper had stopped and then struck the Trooper. The couple in the vehicle which the Trooper stopped went to his aid and called for help. Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Harris County Precinct 1 Constables responded to the scene. The Trooper was transported to Memorial Hermann in the Texas Medical Center in critical condition with a head and leg injury. The driver who struck the Trooper, after going a short distance fled on foot. He hid in a yard in the 12800 block of Baniff Mountain Trail. He now faces multiple charges. The Trooper remains in critical but stable condition.
