One person is shot and is at Conroe Regional Hospital. Two out of town motorists are lucky to be alive and several suspects have fled the area.
It all happened just after 2pm when Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office started taking multiple calls ranging from a fight on the side of US 59 near Splendora to a shooting taking place. Patton Village Police were first on the scene to find a vehicle with South Carolina tags on the side of the road with what appeared to be the glass blown out. As units started talking to the two victims of what appeared to have been a robbery/carjacking, additional calls came in from the Jack In The Box on US 59 and FM 2090 in Splendora.Callers stated a man covered in blood was in he rest room. Police quickly learned the man who was bleeding was one of the suspects in the attempted robbery. Patton Village, Splendora, Woodbranch and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Patton Village Chief immediately evacuated the building and using a bull horn ordered the suspect out of the restroom. Within minutes he complied exiting the restroom. He was detained by a Splendora Officer. That is when it was learned he was shot in the upper arm shoulder area. MCHD was dispatched to the scene and transported the man shot to Conroe Regional Hospital in stable condition.
The victims stated they stopped for fuel in northeast Houston and then stopped at the Flying J on SH 242 at US 59. As they got on the freeway there was a white truck in front of them. At that point a black Dodge Challenger pulled up next to them and motioned for them to pull over pointing to the rear of the vehicle. Thinking a fuel door was still open the driver pulled over. As he was about to exit the vehicle two black males jumped out of the Challenger running up to the victims vehicle. One suspect hit the driver over the head with the pistol causing it to discharge and the clip to fall out.Police believe that shot may be toe one that hit the other suspect. Other shots were fired but police are still attempting to determine who fired those.
Police stopped the Dodge Challenger and took that driver into custody.
Police learned the .40 pistol recovered from the suspect with hollow point bullets was stolen in an aggravated robbery in Houston.
The passenger in the victims car jumped out of the vehicle and started to run. That’s when one of the suspects opened fire on him as he ran down the freeway. The suspect who was shot was then picked up by a motorist near Creekwood and First. The Splendora man who picked him up saw he was hurt and offered to drive him to the East County Clinic a block away. The shot suspect said he was ok and wanted to use the drivers phone. As the driver continued north toward Splendora he saw the red vehicle surrounded by police and became concerned. He then dropped the suspect who was shot at the Jack In The Box then returned to relay the information to police.
As officers were continuing the investigation a family member of the shot suspect drove up. He stated he was called to pick him up and did not know he was shot. The family member was identified and released.
