UPDATE-SH 242 CRASH

11:15 AM Crews remain on the scene of the 18-wheeler rollover on SH 242 between Old Houston and FM 1314. At about 4:15 am Wednesday morning the truck, loaded with chemicals was westbound on SH 242 in the area where SH242 lanes were just opened last week. With heavy rain and no lighting, the driver thought he was on the main lanes. However, at that point is a right turn lane marked with only one sign going into the subdivision. Once you pass the intersection the pavement stops. The driver drove off the end of the pavement and struck a utility pole dropping power lines and tearing out fiber cable lines. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle but the crash was not called in by any passing motorists until 4:56 am. The driver was unable to locate his phone in the cab. Caney Creek Fire responded to the scene along with MCSO and Montgomery County Precinct 4 Traffic Units. The plan was for Entergy to discharge the lines and replace the pole, however, with the truck still on its side, they are having to wait. Crews are currently pumping out the 6000 gallons to another truck. After SH 242 will be closed to all traffic as the pole is replaced and a wrecker uprights the truck. Currently, SH 242 traffic is flowing however motorists are not giving one bit of courtesy to first responders or crews as they continue to drive through at highway speed. Heavy rains in the area have also slowed progress as some chemical has leaked into ditches which are having to be boomed and pumped.

DRIVERS -PLEASE SLOW DOWN THROUGH THE AREA-
