Several Hours ago a drive shaft punctured a fuel tank causing a large fuel spill. Conroe Fire Department attempted to lay a foam layer over it. A HAZMAT crew based out of Dallas responded to the scene without the proper equipment. They are now awaiting another crew. Traffic is now backed up to almost FM 1960.
SH 242 is at a dead stop from FM 1314 to I-45
If you are coming out of Houston either stay for dinner or take US 59 and travel north on either FM 1314, FM 1485, FM2090 to FM 1485 or FM 3083, Exit Fostoria to SH 105, then west.
Transfield is also on the scene to determine how to handle the clean up-
A five-year pilot project started this in the summer of 2012. The $26 million program involves an Australian company, Transfield Services, and a 100-mile stretch of I-45 in the Houston area.
TxDOT spokeswoman Kelli Reyna says the anticipated savings would involve less overtime work for state maintenance employees. The agency has projected up to $120 million in savings over five years.
