The Valley Ranch Subdivision is located on US 59 between Community Drive and FM 1314 in Porter. For several months Brandon Wright, an Army Veteran called the homeowners association trying to get the flag replaced at the entrance to the subdivision as it was badly torn. Calls were never returned so he told several members of the community about it, Within days the community’s Facebook page lit up with others wanting something done. Another resident went as far as buying a flag and donating it. Yet the homeowners association remained unmoved. It was then Wright put his foot down and started pushing. That and the residents coming together in force made it happen.
Monday morning the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and members of the community gathered at the front of the subdivision for a flag ceremony. With over 100 residents present the Scouts lowered the old flag from full staff and replaced it with the new flag raising it to half staff. The Scouts then returned to the stadium and after a brief ceremony cut the flag and burned it as required by law.
