VANDALS HIT CLEVELAND FOOTBALL FIELD

Volunteers arrived at the Cleveland Youth Football Field Saturday morning to find it heavily vandalized.

Crystal Autrey said she and others arrived for registration/signups for the upcoming football season and found the building painted and egged. Autrey said they appeared to be “yard eggs” and the vandals even broke the window on the building and threw some inside. Some of the painting on the building was obscene words and drawings.

The facility is not taxpayer funded. The parents and community members who wish to contribute pay for it so children ages 4 to 12 years have a place for football and cheerleading.

One of the younger cheerleaders, Cherish, was not shy about her feelings regarding the vandalism.

“This makes me mad,” she said.

Joseph Autrey, an older football player, who has used the field for seven years, was also upset.

“It’s just childish,” he said. “I’ve been playing here forever, and we haven’t had nothing like this happen and all of a sudden we’re starting to get egged and graffitied, and that’s making me pretty mad.”

Some of the parent volunteers who planned on having registration today found themselves spray painting over the graffiti instead.
