Saturday, just after midnight, 25-year-old Luis Javier Munguia of Conroe was travelling south bound in a 2003 Toyota Tacoma on Crockett Martin Road. As he and his passenger, 26-year-old Sergio Mata of Conroe, approached the BNSF Railroad crossing , the arms were down and signals operating. The driver went around the arms and was struck by a westbound train traveling at 45 miles per hour.
MCHD, Caney Creek Fire Department and Cut and Shoot Fire Department responded to the accident. The driver was pronounced dead on the scene but his passenge, Mata, was able to exit the vehicle on his own and only suffered a scratch on his elbow.
DPS Trooper Martinez and Sgt. Barnhill investigated the crash and believe alcohol to have been a factor.
Judge Spikes ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. Crockett Martin reopened at 4 a.m.
As the railroad crossing was opened, they were notified of a vehicle stuck on the tracks, two crossing west of the incident. Deputies responded to FM 1485 at Lake Wildwood and found an intoxicated driver on the tracks. He was transported to the Montgomery County Jail
