Just after 230am a Ford Taurus was spotted by motorists heading west in the eastbound lanes. As police searched the vehicle approached the Hardy Toll Road interchange. That is where the driver slammed into another vehicle head-on. Three women were in that vehicle. The female driver was conscious and transported to the hospital, her two companions died at the scene. The wrong way driver was transported in stable condition to the hospital. It is believed he was intoxicated as officers did notice an odor of alcohol about him.
Two other drivers , one Patrick Davis was going to his morning paper route for the Chronicle, the other, Anthony Batiste, just off his long time job at the Kroger Distribution Center were behind one another. That is when Davis spotted the wrong way driver and swerved. The Batiste, who was behind Davis thinking something was in the road swerved also. Then the vehicle with the three women were hit head on. Davis said when they struck both did a nose dive on the freeway.
The female who was struck remains in the hospital, her two companions are deceased. Houston Police have not yet released the names of the parties involved.
