At about 3:30 a.m. this morning a Willis family woke to theirĀ home alarm system going off. After looking for what triggered it they found the door between the house and the garage open. The large overhead door was still closed. The homeowner then closed the door and went back to sleep. The two parents allowed their 7-year-old to sleep with them since the incident had disturbed him. The 13-year-old went to the couch to sleep.
About an hour later they heard a loud bang and the 7-year-old began to scream, āhelp, helpā. They also saw a person leave the room. When the lights were turned on they discovered the 7-year-old had been shot in the lower right leg. Detectives are now calling that wound a shotgun wound.
MCHD was dispatched along with the North Montgomery Fire Department at 4:58 a.m. PHI Air Medical was put on standby. Once deputies arrived to secure the scene medics determined the boy had indeed been shot in the leg. MCHD was going to transport the boy to Hermann Hospital in Houston by ground but en route diverted to Hermann Hospital Woodlands. The boy was then flown by Life Flight to Texas Childrenās downtown where he remains in surgery at this hour.
Detectives are calling this a home invasion. The front door of the home was kicked in. There are no suspects at this point and the investigation continues.
