RAIDS NET THOUSANDS OF POUNDS OF MARIJUANA -WOODLANDS AND CONROE
Since before dawn Tuesday morning DEA and several law enforcement agencies in Montgomery, Harris and Fort Bend County have been involved in over sixty raids of homes. Most of the homes, in areas of Spring, The Woodlands and even Conroe. The homes have all been converted to grow houses for marijuana. Agents removed thousands of pounds of marijuana and hundreds of grow lights from almost every location.

They are currently being questioned about their involvement in allegedly growing high-potency pot with sophisticated equipment.

The DEA used SWAT teams to clear each location. Many of the homes were in quiet, upscale neighborhoods in the $300,000 to $400,000 price range.

DEA agents say that the suspects were likely stealing electricity for their grow houses, which poses a safety hazard to neighboring homes.

“When these homes are used in this way it’s a public safety hazard. Where the electricity is coming from is a public hazard,” said Assistant Special Agent in Charge Anthony Scott

The DEA has been investigating an Asian organized crime ring allegedly responsible for the grow houses.

He also says that the organized crime ring investigation is far from over.

Seven of these raids were in Montgomery County.

MARIJUANA FIELD DISCOVERED IN SOUTHWEST CONROE
Conroe Police discovered a marijuana grow in the southwest part of the city. The ten to twenty thousand plants that are as tall at 7 feet are thought to be several months old but have not fully matured. There were six sections involving several acres. Within the area, they found metal cots and other items which indicated they had sleeping arrangements. They also found pumps and other equipment.

The field which was discovered last week has been under surveillance since that time. Once it was determined that persons were not visiting the site, police shut it down.

Dozers were used to cut paths into the area just to access it from any roadway. Today over 50 federal, state, and local law enforcement officials started the slow process of cutting the field. Once cut it will be loaded onto four-wheelers and transported to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to be dried weighed and destroyed.

The landowners were unaware of the grow and have been cleared by law enforcement officials.

There are no suspects in the case.

HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS BAT COLONY THREATENED
Just before sunset what is estimated at 750,00 bats take to the sky in Huntsville. The bats have taken up residence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Cotton Warehouse adjacent to the west side of the Walls Unit in downtown Huntsville. Texas Parks and Wildlife have unsuccessfully tried to lure them away. However, the site may be in danger if TDCJ continues its efforts to demolish the building build in 1930. Some of the brickwork beauty hasn’t been seen this century.

Texas Bat Refuge is looking to save the bats and keep them in the area. Fars is that 750,000 bats will have no other place to go other than the prison, homes, and schools. One reason they were able to take up residence was TDCJ’s failure to keep the building maintained. Broken windows and doors were the open invitation to the winged creatures.
