LAKE CONROE DROWNING RECOVERY

SAN JACINTO RIVER DROWNING AND RESCUE
Just after 630, Central Montgomery County Fire Department was dispatched to a swift water rescue in the back of the Magnolia Bend Subdivision off FM 1314 just south of Conroe. When they arrived on the scene they learned an 18-year-old male and female had gone swimming. Both got stuck in the extreme current. The female was able to get out of the water safely, However, she stated the male was struggling, he went down, came up, and went down again. Crews from Caney Creek, MCHD, Needham, and South Montgomery County Fire Department responded to the scene. A boat was put into the water but was quickly removed due to the extreme current. A DPS helicopter also assisted but was unable to locate anyone. The search has been called off for tonight and will resume tomorrow.

Currently, San Jacinto River Authority which controls the Lake Conroe dam is currently releasing 2010 cubic feet per second or just over 15,000 gallons per second into the San Jacinto River.

The area of the Grand Parkway has seen flooding. The turn around under 99 from Rayford remains under water. TXDOT has waived tolls for the SECTION OF GRAND PARKWAY FROM US 59 TO I-45. ONLY

HOLLY CREEK FIRE-LIGHTNING STRIKE
Just after 11 pm Sunday, heavy weather started moving into Montgomery County from the west. Within minutes’ lightning strikes started being reported. The was on Bentwater Drive in Bentwater off FM 1097 on Lake Conroe. North Montgomery County Fire Department and Montgomery Fire Department arrived on the scene with heavy fire conditions. Moments later a lightning strike was reported on a home in the 11900 block of Long Tree in Cut and Shoot. Then immediately after it was almost nonstop dispatches the next was a retirement community at 2200 Riverwood Ct in Conroe. Next was S. Fair Manor Circle in the Woodlands then North Pentenwell Circle in the Woodlands, 31200 Wooded Glen in Imperial Oaks, 27900 Emory Cove in Birnham Woods. As all these were working multiple reports of a lightning strike and heavy fire conditions came in at the Holly Creek Apartments at 333 Holly Creek Drive in The Woodlands. Fire crews arrived on that scene with heavy fire conditions. As they started battling the flames in the 19 building and attempting to reach the attic, heavy flames on the roof caused it to start collapsing. Firefighters were pulled out as the roof collapsed moments later. In all 8 units suffered heavy fire damage and 4 others smoke and water damage. The Red Cross is on the scene. Management immediately started notifying residents who were out of town for the holiday. At least 3 cats are missing but not believed to have been in one of the burning apartments. Fire crews remain on the scene at 3am with spot fires. A Woodlands Fire Official did confirm the Holly Creek and other Woodlands fires were lightning-related. Fire units from The Woodlands, Spring, Timber Lakes, South Montgomery County, Magnolia responded to the fire. In addition, another strike sparked a house fire across the creek in Harris County in Creekside where Woodlands and Spring responded to.

TEEN RESCUED FROM LAKE CONROE
About 3:15 pm a13-year-old female who was swimming at the Montgomery County Park on Lake Conroe had her foot impaled by two nails near the bulkhead. Montgomery County Precinct 1 Lake Patrol was secondes off when the call was dispatched. Lt. Cade was first to her where she was up to her chest in water and every little wave coming up to her mouth. Her mother had been holding her above the waterline. Cade ordered all boat traffic in the cove to cease to stop any additional waves. Conroe firefighters worked and were able to free the young girl who was transported to the hospital in stable condition. As she was removed from the water hundreds of spectators who had been enjoying the day on the beach broke out in applause.

I-45 WRONG-WAY DRIVER
Just before 11 pm, 911 boards started lighting up with drivers reporting a wrong-way driver on I-45 southbound in the northbound lanes just south of Conroe. Another Montgomery County unit then also encountered the vehicle and called it in. As several more units converged on the area a Shenandoah officer was almost hit. Units attempted to block the HOV lane he was in but were forced to move when they were almost hit. Several patrol cars made u-turns on the main lanes to try to stop the driver. Finally, units were able to box the driver in just north of SH 242. The male driver was an elderly male with an apparent medical issue. MCHD was dispatched and transported to the hospital.

FM 2090 MOTORCYCLE PURSUIT AND CRASH
Just before 1 am Tuesday a Montgomery County Precinct 4 Deputy was traveling east on FM 2090 near Crockett Martin when he encountered a motorcycle. When the motorcycle rider spotted him he accelerated to high speed. The deputy initiated a pursuit east on FM 2090 at speeds of 130 mph. Splendora units set up at FM 2090 and US 59 to stop traffic from entering the intersection. Seconds later the motorcycle slowed to 115 mph on the Peach Creek bridge, went through the intersection of FM 2090 and US 59 and turned north on the freeway. With other units joining in the pursuit the chase went north on US 59. As the BMW motorcycle approached Fostoria Road the engine blew throwing oil on the freeway. The motorcycle then caught fire at which time the driver went down with the bike sliding across the pavement, He did have a helmet which did suffer severe road damage. The driver was taken to Kingwood Hospital in stable condition. Deputies still do not know why he ran as there were no open warrants on the driver. Splendora, Roman Forest, Patton Village, and DPS assisted in the pursuit.

WOODLANDS STABBING DEATH
On May 28, 2019, at 6:37 PM, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to 3720 College Park Drive, The Woodlands, in reference to a stabbing. Upon arrival at the Plantation Apartments, Deputies discovered one white male with apparent stab wounds. The male was transported to a local emergency room where he succumbed to his wounds. One black male, an employee of the apartment complex, is currently being questioned by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide/Violent Crimes Unit.
There is no other information at this time as this is an active investigation. All parties in this incident have been identified and accounted for and there is no threat to the community.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY DA ANNOUNCES DWI NO REFUSAL
Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon and Chief of Vehicular Crimes with Montgomery County District Attorneys Office Andrew James this morning announced the No Refusal for Memorial Day Weekend. Starting tonight there will be No Refusal in Montgomery County. Blood Warrants will be issued and extra medical personnel will be on hand to assist both in the processing of the warrants and the blood draws. Already in 2021, there have been almost 1200 DWI arrests. Those numbers are higher than in previous years.
