MONTGOMERY COUNTY DEPUTIES INJURED IN I-45 CRASH
Just after 6 am Wednesday morning two Montgomery County deputies were heading to the Sheriff’s Office on the north side of Conroe to pick up a vehicle before heading to their patrol area in East Montgomery County. As they approached the overpass between FM 2854 and SH 105 they spotted a vehicle broken down in the moving lane of traffic. The deputies pulled up behind the vehicle and both got out to assist the motorist who at that point was able to get their vehicle back in motion. As the deputies walked back to their vehicle a Jeep which was also northbound at approximately 70 miles per hour changed lanes into the lane the marked patrol unit with overhead lights activated , was in. The 50-year-old driver hit his brakes and swerved to the right to attempt to avoid a collision with the patrol car. He clipped the right rear of the patrol car with the left front fender of the Jeep. Now at at 63 miles per hour according to the Black Box information on the vehicle. THat is when one of the deputies saw the Jeep coming at them. He then attempted to push his SGT. out of the way when he was struck by the Jeep. When he was hit the deputy remained on the hood for close to one hundred fifty yards before being ejected onto the freeway. The Sgt. was also struck but was more of a glancing blow due to being pushed out of the way.
Due to weather conditions Wednesday morning Life Flight or PHI Air Medical were able to fly. MCHD transported the deputy to the Conroe Regional Trauma Center in very critical condition. THe Sgt was also transported in stable condition.
As of last report the deputy remains in surgery with is condition upgraded to serious. Along with two broken legs and internal injuries, he also suffered a head and back injury.
The driver of the Jeep was taken to Conroe Regional hospital for a mandatory blood draw which was requested by the District Attorney’s Office. That draw was reported to be negative for drugs and alcohol. DPS and the District Attorney’s Office both assisted Conroe Police in the investigation which had the freeway closed northbound until almost noon.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY PRECINCT 4 SHOOT DONT SHOOT
Thursday night over a dozen citizens of East Montgomery County participated in a “Shoot Don’t Shoot” scenario as part of Constable Rowdy Hayden’s Citizens Academy which is held once a year. The students go through many different classes and learn what the officers do on a day to day basis. The scenario is one of the last parts of the class. Each student goes up against a vehicle full of deputies acting as criminals. Each student must decide how to handle the situation. In a second scenario, the criminals are fighting and the student is sent in to defuse the situation. As each person goes through it the others are in the courthouse across the street where they cannot see what they will be up against when it is their turn.
The Citizens Constable Academy is currently a FREE up to 14-week program designed to provide the public with a working knowledge of the Montgomery County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office, local law enforcement and county government. TXDOT CREWS WORK OVERNIGHT TO CLEAR COLLAPSED MOBILE HOME OFF FM 1485
A Precinct 4 worker and several TXDOT workers missed the end of the Astros Game due to a traffic hazard on FM 1485. Sometime Saturday someone was pulling an old travel trailer down FM 1485 just south of Caney Creek High School when the axle broke sending it off toward the ditch. It partially collapsed. The person towing it just pulled the pin on the trailer hitch and drove off. A Precinct 4 Deputy came by and saw it being a hazard and contacted Precinct 4 Commissioner Metts Office to get an on-call person to come out to the scene. The on-call person realizing it was not a County Road but a State highway set barricades and cones around it to alert motorists and notified TxDOT. A crew from TXDOT arrived and evaluated the situation. Since the trailer collapsed even more and the axle was torn out there was no way to be safely hauled by a wrecker. A Gradall and two dump trucks, a sweeper, and a four-man crew were called in. Crews worked from 10 pm until almost 2 am loading the debris onto dump trucks. With one lane closed motorists just drove by at highway speeds not slowing down for crews. If anyone knows who was hauling the trailer and abandon it there please contact Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constables Office.
