TENANTS FORBIDDEN TO RECOVER THEIR FIRE DAMAGED PROPERTY
A three alarm fire damaged Metro Mini Storage on West Lake Houston Parkway in the Kingwood/Atascocita area on Sunday. The the 19-year-old former Special Ed student from Kingwood Atascocita High School arsonist is currently in the Harris County Jail.

Owners of property in the large complex have been patiently waiting to enter the complex since Sunday to recover their damaged property or determine if anything of theirs was damaged. Almost twenty tennants of the storage facility arrived Tuesday to find large dumpsters on the property and crews using back hoes loading them up. The owner will not allow anyone to enter. A few business owners were able to convince him to check their units and recover a few items to run their business. A few others sent cameras in with one of the workers to photograph their property. But yet others stand and watch as demolition continues.

One woman had all her belongings in a climate controlled unit. Books from the 1800’s, antiques, and items she stored when she was forced to move back to Houston to care for her ailing mother. Another person who found her insurance covered her property was told her adjuster would not be able to enter the property.

Most tenants felt the facility was secure as it as surrounded by a 6 foot wrought iron fence on the sides visible to the road. But once behind the facility on a power line easement a 6-foot wooden fence protects it. There are visible signs where holes have been patched. They also wonder how the arsonist was able to access the property when the fire was set.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office had units dispatched several times as the owner felt threatened or to remove trespassers on the outside of the gated facility.

When we attempted to talk to the owner he refused as he got into his Mercedes and drove off.

Another tenant was told that Monday his automatic debit would still go through his bank as he had not given a twenty-five day move out notice.
