ANOTHER FATAL ACCIDENT ON SH242
On Sunday morning, 24-year-old Kenneth West of Conroe was killed when an 18-wheeler struck him on SH 242 just west of Glen Eagle Drive. West was a pedestrian.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Terry Barnhill said the 18-wheeler, driven by 43-year-old Ronald Miller of Magnolia, was eastbound on SH 242 when West walked out in front of it.
West had prior mental health issues and his families told investigators he had not been taking his medication and may have walked out in front of the truck deliberately, Barnhill said. West’s residence was off of Glen Eagle Dr, a couple of blocks from where he died.
DPS Trooper Upshaw responded to the scene from Huntsville and conducted a Federal Department of Transportation inspection on the big rig, which uncovered several violations including issues with the brakes and tires.
Barnhill said since some of the malfunctions with the brakes could possibly have occurred when the 18-wheeler traveled over West’s body.
The investigation is ongoing and evidence will be submitted to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office for possible presentation to a grand jury.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the possible suicide. Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Edie Connelly conducted an inquest and ordered an autopsy.
The county’s second fatality on Sunday occurred around 4:30 p.m. on FM 2978 near Westmoreland when a Magnolia teen died in a head-on collision.
Magdaleno Torres Pinon, Jr., 16, was pronounced dead on the scene after officials say the vehicle he was driving struck another in the oncoming lane of traffic. Pct. 5 Justice of the Peace Matt Masden conducted an inquest and ordered an autopsy.

HARRIS COUNTY DEPUTY MURDERED
A Harris County Deputy who was on a traffic stop in the 14800 block of Willancy Lane in Northwest Harris County was shot at 12:45 pm today. He was transported by Life Flight in critical condition to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he passed away. A call went out for an assist the officer by a passerby, dispatchers sent multiple units and tried to reach the Deputy by both radio and phone. When the first unit arrived he asked for Life Flight immediately. Viewing the dashcam they were able to get a description of the male shooter and vehicle with the license number. A short time later that vehicle was found abandoned in the 15000 block of West Road near Huffmeister. Deputies secured the area and started a search. The male was found in a Business along with a weapon and backpack with narcotics. The Deputy, a 10-year-veteran was known as someone with a giving heart. During Harvey, he was the one who brought 18-wheeler supplies and people to Houston. After the traffic stop the officer was going back to his patrol car when he was ambushed from behind. He is the father of 3-children. A Sikh-American, Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal was allowed to wear articles of his religion while on duty along with his beard. Sheriff Adrian Garcia announced in February 2015 that ten-year HCSO veteran Sandeep Dhaliwal will be allowed to wear a dastaar and beard when in full uniform. At a press conference, Garcia and other county officials made it official. Sikhs do not cut their hair, and Sikh men and women cover their head with turbans. These articles of faith represent a Sikh’s commitment to equality, service, and justice.
EDITOR NOTE: For years I have made countless scenes in Harris County with Sandeep. He was a very good man, a good deputy, and consider a friend. He was always very caring to the community and persons he was in contact with. If anyone needed help he was there. This was nothing but a senseless murder that now has left 3-children without a father. Please keep them in your prayers.
