The East Montgomery County Fire Department relies on volunteer firefighters. These men and women come from all walks of life, but all have one thing in common – at a moment’s notice, they put their lives on the line for their community. Our volunteer membership includes engineers, mechanics, painters, plumbers, and students. The East Montgomery County Fire Department (EMCFD) has scheduled a volunteer recruitment class is scheduled from August 3rd until November 18, with a graduation ceremony November 21, 2015. If you have the desire to serve your community and you meet our requirements, stop by one of the EMCFD fire stations to discuss becoming an East Montgomery County Volunteer Firefighter.
“The volunteer firefighter cadets will learn the how, what, and why of training to become a volunteer firefighter and while earning certification from the State Firefighter’s & Fire Marshal’s Association”, said Jeff Taylor – East Montgomery County Fire Chief.
Once accepted into the firefighter recruit program, individuals will be put through an intensive 16-week training program which, upon completion, will allow certification through the State Firefighter’s and Fire Marshall’s Association as an entry level Fire Fighter. Volunteers will have the knowledge and the tools necessary to perform on the scene of an emergency. Once you have successfully completed the recruit program, you will be provided with standard issue firefighting gear and uniforms.
The volunteer firefighter recruitment class will begin August 3rd from 6:30-9:30 pm and continue every Monday and Wednesday nights through November 18th. Some Saturdays will be required for skills training. The class is limited to the first 25 participants. Every applicant will be reviewed, and must be medically cleared to participate. Students must be 18 years of age or older because of the nature of the job of a firefighter.
