The wildfire in Walker County is now at approximately 500 acres, with zero percent containment. The fire, burning and spreading for hours now, is between the Trinity River and FM 247.
Walker County, Madison County and San Jacinto County firefighters, along with the Texas Forest Service are working to prevent further spreading and get the massive blaze under control. Despite the intense efforts of so many agencies, the fire has proven difficult to contain because of the extreme drought conditions, with an enormous amount of dry and dead vegetation providing fuel.
