WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH HOME INVASION

Last Monday, the Walker County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Home Invasion burglary in Phelps, Eastern Walker County, where a 40 year old homeowner was shot and critically injured.

During  the resulting investigation, the Sheriff’s Office Investigators have arrested 4 adults and 1 juvenile.  The investigation is still ongoing but the Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating one of the suspects in the shooting. This suspect is 18 year-old DeShawn Marcel Bates, wanted on a First Degree Felony Burglary of a Habitation.

DeShawn Bates could be in the Huntsville, New Waverly or the Montgomery, Texas area. Bates is described as a black male, approximately 5 foot, 5 inches tall, weighing 162 pounds.  He has black hair with brown eyes.  His last known address is The Cedarwood Apartments, located at 2201 Bobby K. Marks in Huntsville, Texas.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office and Crimestoppers is currently offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of DeShawn Bates. Law enforcement wishes to stress that if Bates is seen, do not attempt to apprehend him yourself. He is considered armed and dangerous.
