PRESS RELEASE FROM LIBERTY COUNTY:
On July 6th, 2011 Deputies from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office were attempting to locate John Robert McComb of Liberty County as a person of interest in area burglaries where numerous firearms have been reported stolen. As Deputies were driving towards Mr. McComb’s residence he was leaving in a white small minivan. Deputies attempted to stop Mr. McComb at which time he, McComb, made the decision to not obey the Deputies and flee from them at a high rate of speed. As Mr. McComb turned onto Plum Grove Road in Liberty County, he drove at a high rate of speed towards a fire scene where firefighters, who were already exhausted and fighting a dangerous woods fire, became alarmed and feared he, (McComb) may strike a firefighter or fire truck.
Mr. McComb left the roadway, however, he was still unable to pass the fire scene. He, McComb, placed his minivan in park and fled on foot through the fire scene and into the burning wooded area. Deputies, realizing the danger presented by Mr. McComb’s actions, Deputies did not pursue him into the burning wooded area. Deputies were able to recover the minivan Mr. McComb was operating.
Mr. McComb has been charged in Liberty County for the Felony offense of evading – motor vehicle and Felon in possession of a firearm. Mr. McComb is also a wanted Felon from Montgomery County with one outstanding Felony warrant for his arrest through the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. McComb has an extensive and lengthy criminal history to include Assault, Assault-Deadly Weapon, Assault-Serious Bodily Injury and numerous narcotics related charges. Mr. McComb should be considered armed and extremely dangerous.
