Saturday’s Severe Weather
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop along and ahead of a cold front Saturday afternoon through the evening, some of which could become strong to severe. The threat of severe storms is greater across the Piney Woods area near Crockett, Livingston and Huntsville. SPC has these areas under a Slight (level 2/5) Risk for severe weather on Saturday, with a Marginal (level 1/5) Risk extending further southwest to cover College Station, Houston and Galveston. Damaging wind gusts will be the main severe weather hazard, but these storms will also be capable of producing isolated tornadoes and large hail. The severe weather threat should come to an end once the cold front pushes through, just after sunset.Â
Dangerous Cold on the Horizon
An Arctic cold front is expected to push through Southeast Texas Tuesday night, bringing frigid conditions across the area in the days following. There is still uncertainty as to how this next system will unfold, and much can change over the next several days. Right now, the chances of winter precipitation with this system are very low. However, there is high confidence in very cold conditions. Hard Freezes will be possible, especially across our northern counties. The combination of low temperatures and breezy winds could bring dangerously cold wind chill values, beginning Wednesday night.
