WILLIS MAN KILLED IN GRIMES COUNTY SCHOOL BUS ACCIDENT

A two-vehicle wreck involving a school bus and a car in Grimes County has claimed the life of a Montgomery County man.

Willis resident, Robert Caves, 51, was transported to Grimes County St. Joseph where he later died.

The bus, a Durham Transportation vehicle with Navasota ISD, wasn’t carrying any children, but the driver, 33-year-old, Latasha Davis, of Navasota was also taken to Grimes County St. Joseph in Navasota where she was treated and released.

The accident happened on Highway 105 near FM 1748, Friday morning around ten. DPS investigators say the car, a black Pontiac was travelling westbound on Hwy 105 when it drifted into the eastbound lane.

Authorities say the bus driven by Davis was travelling east and though she attempted to avoid hitting the car, she was unable to steer clear in time.

Following the wreck, the highway was shutdown for a brief period, but has been reopened.

DPS officials are investigating the cause of the crash, but they don’t believe speed was a factor. Both of the drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
