LAKE CONROE DROWNING
A man is missing and believed drowned in Lake Conroe. Members of the Precinct 1 and North Montgomery County Fire Department dive teams are currently searching about a one square mile area between April Sound and Walden where the power lines cross the lake.

Witnesses last saw the missing man around 5:30 p.m. A group of friends spent the weekend boating on the lake and were enjoying the last day with five people in the boat, pulling one on a tube behind the boat, when a large wave hit the tube. The tuber, who was wearing a life vest, was in obvious distress. Another man jumped off the boat and tried to swim to the tuber to assist him. Before the would-be rescuer reached the tube, he went under the water for unknown reasons and never resurfaced.

CRASH AT FOSTORIA AND SH 105 EAST INJURES 4-YEAR-OLD
Dispatchers were kept busy Monday evening. About 5:30 p.m. 911 was taking a call for a lake rescue on Lake Conroe on the west side of Montgomery County multiple other calls were coming in for a major accident on Fostoria Road and SH 105 in far east Montgomery County. Splendora Fire Department responded to the crash in which a 4-year-old boy was reported to have been ejected for a vehicle. In addition, another victim was tapped in a Ford pickup which rested on its roof.

As MCHD arrived on the scene Life Flight was activated. In addition with one fire crew already working to free a trapped victim, Cleveland Fire Department was also dispatched to assist.

With Life Flight having an extended flight it was determined to cut the time by transporting the child to the Porter Fire Station and meet Life Flight there. DPS troopers are still trying to determine exactly what happened and whether the child was secured in a child seat and also whether he was actually ejected.

SH 105 was closed for over one hour as traffic was diverted around the scene.

At least four others were transported by two additional ambulances called to the scene.

The crash happened in the intersection causing the Ford to flip over. A riding mower was thrown from its bed into a ditch on the opposite side of the road.

COMBATING SPEED IN EAST MONTGOMERY COUNTY
The Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office unveiled their new tool to make Precinct 4 roads safer on Thursday. Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden said the two mobile “traffic advisory devices” will provide a way to get drivers to slow down, without having an officer on location. Montgomery County has one of the highest traffic fatality rates in the state, he said, and studies have shown the devices reduce speeds from 10 to 20 percent. The devices show approaching drivers their current speed, as well as the posted speed.

“They’re very effective with what we call super speeders,” Hayden said, “That’s people traveling 20 or more miles per hour above the posted speed limit.”

The devices will be placed in areas where there is a major problem with speeding, particularly those that have prompted numerous complaints from citizens. The Constable said they will be advantageous in a couple of particular locations where the shoulders are narrow or non-existent, making it difficult for an officer to park and monitor traffic.

The units were purchased through a grant that was a joint project of the Constable’s Office and the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Commissioner’s Office, along with the East Montgomery County Improvement District.

Anyone thinking they might be able to steal the devices or parts from them for salvage money should know they are equipped with video and GPS technology and can be monitored and located remotely by law enforcement.

18 WHEELER HITS CAR AND KEEPS GOING
Just before 1 pm Thursday Russell Neal II of Hope, Arkansas was driving his 18-wheeler Peterbilt flatbed northbound on Interstate 69 just south of Cleveland, Texas. As he crossed the East Fork San Jacinto River bridge he felt a bump and thought he blew a front tire.

As this happened, multiple calls started coming into the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office from motorists reporting a possible road rage incident. They were reporting that an 18 wheeler t-boned a silver Hyundai Sonata and was still driving at 70mph pushing it down the road. Multiple units were dispatched.

As units arrived they found it not to be a case of road rage but a crash. Erin Reynolds, 25, of Tempe, Arizona is a children’s book salesperson. She was in the process of delivering books to Coldspring, Texas when she said she blinked and the next thing she knew was there was an 18-wheeler grille in her driver’s window. She said it seemed like forever and she was afraid the vehicle would roll or catch fire as there was heavy smoke from the vehicle tires sliding sideways on the pavement.

The 18-wheeler driver, still thinking it was a blown tire continued to slow down and as he got to the end of the bridge where there was a shoulder, he attempted to pull over. As he crawled out of the driver’s seat he realized he had hit a car and it was still attached to the front of his truck. With the long nose of the truck, he was not able to see over it, he called it a blind spot. All four of the Hyundai tires were blown and there was damage to the driver’s door, however, they believe mechanically the vehicle is still sound and drivable. Neither driver had a scratch on them.

TWO BODIES WERE FOUND IN MAGNOLIA
At 3 pm Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting two deceased victims in a home in the 19400 block of Forest Ridge. When units arrived on the scene they found a male in his 60’s with a gunshot wound and a female in her 50’s with a gunshot wound. Detectives are just arriving and not yet released details but say they do not believe there is any danger of a suspect in the area. On August 29, a fellow employee came to check on the female home health care worker, who had not gone to work or called in. No contact was made. Thursday afternoon a family member went to the home and as she opened the door which was unlocked, discovered the bodies. She went to a neighbor who alerted a Harris County Deputy who lives down the street. He then notified Montgomery County. The male is reported to work for a pool company doing repairs. They have lived in the home for just over a year.

We will update you when we have additional information.
